License

License: CC0, really free

The short version: every model on Grab3D is dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0 Universal. Use it for anything, commercial or not. No attribution, no account, no fees.

What you can do

  • Use it commercially: in games, apps, films, renders, ads and client work, and sell the result without paying anything.
  • Change it: retexture, remesh, cut apart, kitbash, rig or animate it.
  • Ship it in games you sell: on Steam, consoles, mobile stores or anywhere else, as part of your game.
  • Pass it on: share the original or your changed version, on your own site too.
  • Skip the credit: attribution is not required. A link to Grab3D is welcome, never mandatory.

What CC0 means legally

CC0 is not a license with conditions but a public domain dedication by Creative Commons: we waive all copyright and related rights in the models worldwide, to the extent the law allows. Where a waiver isn’t possible, CC0 grants you an unconditional license instead. The full text is the CC0 1.0 legal code.

Good to know

  • Only our rights are waived. CC0 covers the copyright in our models. It does not cover trademark or patent rights, and it can’t waive rights that other people might hold in something a model depicts. Our subjects are generic (no brands, logos or real people), but if you build a product around what a model shows, the usual rules for your own project still apply.
  • The name Grab3D is not included. You may say where the models come from, but not suggest that Grab3D endorses your project.
  • “As is”. The models are provided without any warranty. We check them carefully, but please test them in your own project before you rely on them.
  • No exclusivity. Because the models are in the public domain, nobody (including you) can stop others from using the same models.

Short FAQ

Can I sell a game that uses Grab3D models?

Yes. Commercial use is allowed without fees or royalties, and you don’t have to mention Grab3D in the credits.

Can I modify a model and publish my version?

Yes. You can publish your version under any license you like. Only the original stays public domain.

Can I resell the models themselves?

CC0 allows it. Keep in mind that anyone can download the same files here for free, so it rarely makes sense without adding your own work.

Do I need to keep a license file?

No. The OBJ download includes a LICENSE.txt for reference, but you don’t have to ship it with your project.

Are models from the wish board also CC0?

Yes. Every model we publish on Grab3D is released under CC0.

How the models are made

Many models start as an AI-generated draft that is corrected in Blender. Our kits are built by scripts. Why we can release all of them under CC0 is explained on how our 3D models are made. More answers are in the FAQ.

This page explains the license in plain language. It is not legal advice. The CC0 legal code is authoritative.
