Recolor Studio: change the colors of any 3D model online

Load a free CC0 model from the Grab3D library or your own GLB, then recolor its materials, shift texture colors or map the whole texture onto a palette. Export the result as GLB, PNG screenshot or texture. Everything runs in your browser.

Pick a model from the library or drop your own file.

How to recolor a 3D model

    1. Pick a model from the library or drop your own .glb or .gltf file. Your file never leaves your device.
    2. Materials tab: click a part of the model or a material in the list, then set a new color or change hue, saturation, lightness, metallic and roughness.
    3. Texture tab: press Pick color and click the model or the texture preview. Shift the hue of that color range or colorize it, and use tolerance and soft edge to control how far the change spreads.
    4. Map the texture onto a palette such as PICO-8 or Endesga 32, one you extract from an image or your own colors. Drag the compare slider to see before and after.
    5. Save variants, try Randomize for harmonious color schemes, then export a GLB with the new materials and textures, a PNG screenshot or the texture on its own.

    Two ways to recolor

    Material mode
Best for models built from several materials, like most Lightweight kit models: wood, metal, cloth and glass are separate materials. Change one color and every part that uses it follows. Colors stay plain material values, so the exported GLB stays as small as the original.
    Texture mode
Best for High Detail models, which carry all their colors in one painted texture. Pick a color with the pipette and move just that color range, change the whole texture or remap it onto a palette. The work happens in a GPU shader, so even 4K textures update live.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is the Recolor Studio free?

Yes. No account, no limit and no watermark. Every model in the Grab3D library is CC0, and a recolored CC0 model stays CC0: use it in commercial games without attribution.

Should I use material mode or texture mode?

Use material mode when a model has several materials, which is the case for most Lightweight kit models. Use texture mode for High Detail models, which keep all their colors in one texture. The tool opens the fitting mode for each model and you can switch at any time.

    How does palette mapping work?

Colors are compared in OKLab, a color space that matches how the eye sees differences. By brightness sorts the texture from dark to light and spreads your palette over that range, so shading survives. Nearest color replaces every pixel with the closest palette color. Keep shading blends the original lightness back in.

What does the exported GLB contain?

The same meshes, UVs, normal, roughness and metallic maps as the loaded file, with your new material values and a newly baked color texture wherever the texture changed. Textures can be written as PNG, JPEG or WebP and limited to a maximum size. Geometry is stored uncompressed, so the file can be larger than a Draco compressed original.

Why are library textures 2K at most?

Library models load as web versions: 2048 px textures for High Detail and 1024 px for Lightweight models. For full 4K textures, download the model from its page and drop the GLB into the Recolor Studio.

    Is my model uploaded anywhere?

No. Loading, recoloring and exporting all happen on your device with WebGL. Nothing is sent to a server.

Library models and their recolored versions are CC0 (public domain). Models you load yourself keep their own license. About the CC0 license
