OBJ

A simple, decades-old text format for static meshes that almost every 3D program can open.

Wavefront OBJ stores vertices, UVs, normals and faces as plain text. Materials live in a separate .mtl file that points to the texture images. OBJ knows nothing about skeletons or animation, its material model predates PBR, and it defines no unit or up axis. Scale, orientation and roughness or metallic maps may therefore need attention after import. Its strength is compatibility: practically any 3D tool or viewer opens it. On Grab3D, OBJ is offered for every model except the rigged variants, as a ZIP containing the .obj, the .mtl and the textures. Unzip it and keep the files together so the texture paths resolve. For game engines, GLB or FBX is usually the better choice. OBJ is the fallback for tools that read nothing else.
