About this model
Before engines, castles and cathedrals rose with machines like this. Two wooden rims joined by spokes and close-set tread boards form a walk wheel big enough for a worker to step inside. It sits on an axle between two trestles on a timber sill frame, and a rope drum on the same axle winds up a thick rope. The rope runs over a pulley at the head of the oak mast and out along a braced jib to a rounded hook, where a stone block hangs in a sling. A small stack of blocks waits at the foot. Wheel, axle and drum form one separate object with the pivot on the axle, so you can turn them while the load rises. It belongs to the Cozy Medieval Kit and looks natural beside a half-built castle wall. Tip: sync the wheel spin with a walking worker for a lively construction scene.
