02About Flare
Flare, the Free Libre Action Roleplaying Engine, is a single player 2D action RPG in the spirit of Diablo. You explore a fantasy world, fight goblins, antlions, zombies, wyverns and worse, collect loot, level up and choose your path as Brute, Adept, Scout, Keeper or Wanderer.
This browser edition ships the official Alpha Demo campaign with the fantasycore art of Flare 1.15.

03Tips for your first game of Flare
- Choose your path as you level up your hero: Brute, Adept, Scout, Keeper or Wanderer.
- Shift and click attacks without moving, Tab swaps weapons.
- On touch screens the first tap on an item shows its details, the second offers equip, buy or sell. The touch controls can be switched off in the input options.
- Part of the world loads in the background while you play. If you reach a new map early, the game may briefly show that the rest of the world is still loading.
04What was remastered for the browser
Improvements only touch the picture and the controls. Game logic and speed stay as in the original.
- The complete C++ engine of Flare 1.15 is compiled to WebAssembly and runs natively in your browser.
- Sharp at your screen's pixel density.
- Game logic on a fixed clock of 60 steps per second like the desktop original, so 120 or 144 Hz screens never speed it up.
- Artwork re-encoded as WebP with a quality check per image, the remaining data loads in the background while you play.
- Flare's own touch controls for phones and tablets, plus savegame backup and restore.

06Savegames
Your characters and progress are stored in your browser and saved automatically on every map change, when you leave the game and when you switch tabs or apps. Use Menu, then Back up savegames to keep a copy or move your heroes to another device. Clearing site data deletes the savegames, and Safari may remove data of sites you have not used for a while, so keep a backup.
